Thanks for your comment. It's a universal struggle: How much of the real me do I allow someone to see at the risk of being rejected? It plays out in most all relationships: romantic partners, co-workers, friends, neighbors, extended family, therapist-client. But the reward! Ahh! To be fully known to someone AND still accepted by them feels incredibly wonderful. What you feel in this kind of relationship is close and safe and relief. It's my wish to let my readers know that when you choose a trustworthy person the reward IS worth the risk.

Being vulnerable is one of the more difficult things for us to do... but I agree, it is something that we all need to do as part of life. It can be scary, but it will pay off and be worth it.

Very well-thought out post. I think it's great to get your children involved with the hobbies you enjoy. I particularly appreciated the comments about not forcing your agenda on them. It's important to allow them to find their own interests too. Thanks for the great post.

Hi Julianne,

I am so glad you find my writing informative. There is so much I have learned about relationships in my work as a couples counselor and also in my own relationship. I feel grateful to have the opportunity to teach others what I've learned. The more info we know about connecting with others, the more we can give and receive love.

Warmly,
Meredith
